Key Worker and Vunerable Children Support January 2021

4th Jan 2021

Following the announcement by Department of Education on 31st December 2020 Key Worker/ Vunerable Children  Support will be available for pupils from Thursday 7th January. As a school we strongly encourage that this option be used as a last resort by Key Worker parents. DE  have defined this to mean a child for whom both parents ( or a parent in a single parent family)  fall in the key worker category and for whom there is no other safe alternative. The safest place for all children in the current situation is in the home environment with parents or other family members.

The requirements for this closure leave schools and teachers juggling a number of balls including in school support and leading the online learning for the vast majority of pupils who will remain at home. In meeting this challenge the in school day has been reviewed and streamlined in order to create opportunities for teachers supervising Key Worker pupils to attend to online class duties. This will mean a much reduced lunch break, a rolling mid morning break and changed start and finish times.

Please note following starting and finishing times:

P1- P3 8:55am - 1:00pm

P4 - P7 8:55am - 1:30pm

School dinners will be available during the lunch interval from noon to 12:20pm.

Parents should deliver and collect children from the main entrance at the office during this week.

Please note Key Worker Support classes are likely to be composite classes due to the very small numbers of children attending and pupils are unlikely to be supervised by their own class teacher on these days. Taking these factors into account pupils will not benefit from face to face teaching but will undertake some generic activities and have some online engagement with their class teacher.

If you wish to register your child/children for  in school support due to your occupation as a key worker or if they fall into the Vunerable Child category please email  Mrs Winton awinton528@c2kni.net before Wednesday 6th January with your child’s details including year and class as well as TWO current emergency contact numbers in addition to your own mobile number. A proforma will returned to you for you to confirm days required. Contacts should be available to collect a child promptly in the case of sickness or injury.
